Learn About Our Work
A Critical Moment
The Transition Into Adulthood Shouldn't Feel Like Falling
For many young women aging out of foster care, the transition into adulthood happens quickly — and often without the safety net most young adults rely on. On their 18th birthday, the support systems they've known can disappear almost overnight, leaving them to navigate an uncertain world with limited resources and few trusted relationships.
Housing, employment, financial responsibility, education — everything shifts at once. Without a family home to return to, without guidance on signing a lease or building credit, this pivotal moment can become overwhelming rather than empowering. The statistics are sobering: young people who age out of foster care face disproportionately high rates of homelessness, unemployment, and instability within the first two years of independence.
We believe community changes that. With the right support at the right time, these young women can build lives defined not by their past — but by their potential.
What We Provide
Structure, Support & a Steady Path Forward
Her Next Chapter is built around more than temporary shelter. We offer steady guidance during a critical season of life — the kind of structured, compassionate support that transforms uncertainty into confidence and isolation into belonging.
Safe & Stable Housing
A secure residential environment that prioritizes safety, accountability, and consistency. Our home is designed to feel like a true home — a place where young women can exhale, settle in, and begin to plan for the future with peace of mind.
Life Skills & Financial Literacy
Hands-on guidance in budgeting, employment readiness, and independent living. From opening a bank account to preparing for a job interview, we equip residents with the real-world skills they need to thrive on their own.
Mentorship & Community Connection
Trusted relationships and access to local resources that strengthen long-term stability. Every resident is paired with a mentor who walks alongside her — offering encouragement, accountability, and a consistent presence.
Our Mission
Building Independence on a Strong Foundation
Her Next Chapter Transitional Living, Inc. provides safe, structured transitional housing and supportive services to young women ages 18–24 exiting foster care.
Our mission is rooted in a simple but powerful conviction: every young woman deserves the opportunity to build her life on a foundation of stability, accountability, and practical preparation — not uncertainty and fear. We focus on equipping residents with the tools, relationships, and confidence they need so that when they step into full independence, they are truly ready.
We don't just provide a roof. We provide a runway — a structured, compassionate environment where young women can learn, grow, and prepare for the life they want to live. Our programming addresses the whole person: emotional well-being, financial health, career readiness, and community belonging.

Our Approach
A Pathway Designed for Lasting Change
Our program is intentionally designed as a phased journey — moving residents from stabilization through skill-building to full independence. Each phase builds upon the last, ensuring that every young woman is prepared for what comes next.
This isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. Each resident's plan is personalized to her goals, strengths, and circumstances. Whether she's pursuing education, entering the workforce, or both — we walk alongside her every step of the way.
Community Matters
True Transition Happens in Community
No organization can do this work alone. We are building meaningful partnerships across Baton Rouge — with local leaders, service providers, mentors, churches, businesses, and supporters — who believe that young women deserve stability, dignity, and opportunity.
Together, we are preparing to open our first transitional home — a milestone that represents years of planning, prayer, and community investment. This home will serve as a model for compassionate, structured transitional living in our region.
From local businesses offering job training to mentors who show up week after week, our community partners are the backbone of this mission. Every partnership strengthens the foundation we're building for these young women.
When a community rallies around its most vulnerable members, transformation becomes possible — not just for individuals, but for neighborhoods and generations.

Because no one should step into adulthood alone.
At Her Next Chapter, we see each resident not as a statistic, but as a young woman with dreams, strengths, and untapped potential. Our promise is to provide the kind of steady, structured care that allows her to discover what's possible when she has a safe place to stand.
We envision a Baton Rouge where no young woman falls through the cracks of a system that was meant to protect her. Where aging out of foster care doesn't mean aging into homelessness or isolation. Where every young woman has access to the housing, mentorship, and life skills she needs to build the life she was made for.
This is her next chapter. And together, we're writing it.
